In this post, we will share a recipe for homemade conditioner for dry hair. The main ingredient here is rum, which is primarily Blackstrap molasses are packed with nutrients made out of molasses. Molasses are great for dry hair and produce great results. I also share an alternative conditioner using blackstrap molasses if you have any reservations about using rum or eggs in your hair.
Homemade Conditioner For Dry Hair Recipe
List of ingredients
3 tablespoons of rum
1 egg yolk
Mix the egg yolk, and rum in a blow and mix thoroughly. And that’s it.
After you have washed your hair with shampoo, apply the rum conditioner to your hair. Part your hair into sections and apply a bit of conditioner to each section to ensure even coverage. Leave the conditioner in your hair for 10 minutes for maximum absorption. Rinse thoroughly with cold water or water as cool as you can bear.
Using hot or warm water will cook the egg, or more like poach the egg, causing it to coagulate leaving yellow blobs of egg yolk in your hair which is really not easy to rinse out. If this happens you may have to wash your hair all over again, so stick to cold water.
You can modify this recipe by applying half a cup of blackstrap molasses to your hair and allowing it to sit in your hair for 20 minutes post shampooing your hair. After the 20 minutes, rinse your hair thoroughly with cool or tepid water.
Blackstrap molasses are rich in Potassium, Iron, B vitamins (riboflavin, and niacin), calcium, phosphorus, and sodium, all great vitamins and minerals for promoting a healthy scalp.
Obviously if you apply the blackstrap molasses directly to your hair there is no need to follow it up with the rum conditioner. Blackstrap molasses can be drunk as a mineral supplement so it is safe to apply directly on your hair. If you have coloured hair and are worried using either of these recipes might change your hair colour, then do what the pros do and perform a strand test, preferably 24 hours before you intend to use it.
Perform your strand test by using the conditioner on a tiny section of your hair, no more than a square centimeter in area. The strand test should be performed on an area of your hair that can easily be hidden or isn’t visible, depending on how you wear your hair on a day to day basis.
